Worker-owned. Mission-driven.
Work that matters.

Apteryx is a worker-owned cooperative. No outside investors, no pressure to scale for scale's sake. Just practitioners who want to do good work for organizations that serve the public.

Our Structure

Why a cooperative?

Most consulting firms are built to extract value — for partners, for investors, for an eventual exit. That model creates misaligned incentives. Growth becomes the goal, not outcomes.

As a worker-owned co-op, every member has a stake in how we operate. We make decisions together. We don't answer to a board optimizing for quarterly returns. When we say we're here to help, there's no asterisk.

This structure also means we're not trying to become a 500-person firm. We stay small intentionally — so senior people do the work, so we can choose projects that matter, and so our incentives stay aligned with yours.

Why We Exist

The short version

Between us, we've spent decades in data engineering, cybersecurity, and public sector consulting. We've worked inside government agencies. We've been the contractors. We've seen what works and what's theater.

Too often, the firms with the biggest contracts are optimized for winning contracts — not delivering outcomes. They staff projects with junior consultants, pad timelines, and treat every engagement as a stepping stone to a larger one.

We started Apteryx to prove there's another way. A cooperative, owned by the people doing the work, focused on clients who serve the public.

Our Approach

How we work

Senior people do the work

No bait-and-switch. The people you meet are the people on your project.

Scoped and finite

We define clear deliverables and timelines. We're not trying to become your permanent dependency.

Plain language

We explain what we're doing and why. No jargon to obscure simple concepts.

Knowledge transfer

We document everything. When we leave, your team can maintain and build on what we built.
